As the central contact person for engineering in the project, the Engineering Manager (EM) is responsible for the efficient and cost-, time- and quality-compliant handling of engineering. The EM coordinates the engineering for the Technical Managers / Technical System Managers and manages engineering interfaces between different products.
Engineering Manager

General section:
- Initiates, coordinates, and controls all engineering activities within the project to ensure in-cost, in-time and in-quality project execution
- Leads the engineering function within the project and ensures effective interdisciplinary coordination and collaboration
- Represents the overall engineering within the project in internal and external meetings
- Manages the interfaces and coordinates assigned TMs and TSMs*
- Communicates and aligns all relevant engineering information within the project core team (PM, PS, PSCM, CM)
- Manages the engineering part of the Integrated Project Time Schedule (IPTS) together with the Project Scheduler (PS) aligned with the TM and TSMs*
- Manages Engineering Deliverables List (EDL) in collaboration with the TMs and TSMs* and the Document Manager (DCM)
- Manages the overall engineering budget with the Project Manager in alignment with the TMs and the TSMs*
- Executes and leads Plant Engineering Gate meetings
- Supports during sales phase for selected projects
- Drives continuous improvement of engineering management methods, planning processes and competences.
Project start phase:
- Participates in the kick-off meeting and project start-up work shop
- Analyses the contract for completeness of technical documentation and correctness of technical concept with regard to limits on supplies, performance and interfaces for the engineering within a project
- Initiates all engineering activities within the project to ensure in-cost, in-time and in-quality project execution
- Initiates the nomination of employees as engineering team members (TM, TSM) to the project in alignment with line management and project management
- Communicates and implements the project-specific requirements regarding Engineering
- Establishes the engineering part of the Integrated Project Time Schedule (IPTS) together with the Project Scheduler aligned with the TM and TSMs*
- Plans the overall engineering budget with the Project Manager in alignment with the TMs and the TSMs*
- Coordinates creation of Engineering Deliverables List (EDL) in collaboration with the TMs and TSMs* and the DCM
- Participates in risk workshops with focus on Engineering
Project controlling phase:
- Coordinates, and controls all engineering activities within the project to ensure in-cost, in-time and in-quality project execution
- Manages Engineering Deliverables List (EDL) in collaboration with the TMs and TSMs* and the DCM
- Manages the engineering part of the integrated project time schedule (IPTS) together with the Project Scheduler aligned with the TM and TSMs*
- Provides progress and status reporting for engineering activities at project level (Level 4 and Level 3 alignment)
- Leads and moderates plant engineering gate meetings, as well as follow-up of counteractive measures
- Leads technical changes within the project with a focus on engineering as part of the deviation management
- Tracks risks for technical issues
Project closing:
- Provides lessons learned with focus on Engineering
- Assures engineering documentation for the whole plant is compiled and handed over on time and in accordance with contract
