Sales Engineer: Long Products (LPH)


The Sales Engineer will support the Long Products business by developing competitive techno-commercial proposals, optimized technical solutions, project cost estimates, and commercial pricing for rolling mill projects.

SIE HANDELN

  • Support the Sales team throughout the proposal and bidding lifecycle for Long Product Rolling Mill projects.
  • Review customer enquiries, RFQs and tender documents to identify the optimum technical and commercial solution.
  • Prepare and coordinate techno-commercial proposals, scope of supply, technical specifications and proposal documentation.
  • Develop project cost estimates, commercial pricing and bid evaluations for complete plants as well as individual equipment.
  • Determine estimation parameters based on project scope (weights, man-hours, materials, fabrication, logistics, installation, engineering, etc.).
  • Prepare enquiry packages for subcontractors and workshops, coordinate supplier quotations, and work closely with the Supply Chain department to develop optimized commercial solutions.
  • Review and assess technical documents including drawings, layouts, specifications, offers, project schedules and installation schedules.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Sales, Supply Chain and other stakeholders to obtain technical input and ensure completeness and consistency of estimation documents.
  • Perform plausibility and completeness checks of technical and commercial input received from various departments.
  • Establish competitive pricing based on target-cost methodology, reference plants and current procurement market conditions.
  • Prepare alternative cost estimates and commercial scenarios to support bid strategy and Management of Bid (MoB) decisions.
  • Support technical discussions, customer clarifications, commercial negotiations and contract negotiations as required.
  • Conduct market analysis, competitor benchmarking and maintain cost databases to continuously improve proposal competitiveness.
  • Advise the Sales team on cost-efficient reference plants, products and optimized technical-commercial solutions.

SIE WISSEN

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 8–12 years of experience in Sales Engineering, Proposal Engineering, Techno-commercial Sales or Cost Estimation, preferably in Long Product Rolling Mills.
  • Broad understanding of rolling mill processes, products, organizational interfaces, software systems and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of business cost structures including materials, fabrication, subcontracting, logistics, installation, engineering and quality assurance.
  • Good knowledge of plant components, assemblies and interfaces including mechanical, structural, piping, electrical and automation systems.
  • Basic understanding of fabrication, manufacturing and installation processes, including time and cost drivers.
  • Cost estimation methodologies and target-cost pricing.
  • Market analysis and competitor benchmarking.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with strong English proficiency.
  • Techno-commercial proposal preparation and bid management.
  • Commercial costing, estimation and pricing.
  • Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder management.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to travel.
