Work environment:

Design office specialized in the conception of steel sheet heat treatment furnaces, located in the Liège region (Belgium).

Office-based work within a team. Must be willing to travel abroad, within and outside Europe, for short and long-term assignments.

Automation Engineer / Programmer


SIE HANDELN

Main function – Hardware & software definition and programming of the various functionalities of the furnaces:

  • Definition of the control system architecture based on PLC / DCS, SCADA and drives;

  • Definition of related hardware and software requirements;

  • Configuration programming of a PLC hardware setup according to redundancy principles (device / network / PLC);

  • Definition of signal exchange principles with other control systems interacting with the furnace;

  • Development and follow-up of standard functional blocks (PLC & SCADA);

  • Programming (PLC, SCADA & Drive) in various languages / methods;

  • Safety programming (PLC & drive) based on a functional description and in compliance with applicable standards;

  • Supervision of the final application programming;

  • Application testing (standard program and safety program validation according to standards);

  • Performing PL calculations (Sistema) & related safety documentation;

  • Commissioning of the furnace or a furnace section, through remote support from the office and on-site interventions.

Other responsibilities:

  • Preparation of documentation related to all points listed above;

  • Understanding of P&ID diagrams;

  • Understanding and drafting of functional analysis;

  • Analysis of reports and data presented in tables and graphs in order to identify furnace malfunctions;

  • Process explanation & customer training.

Potential responsibilities:

  • Drafting of the functional analysis: detailed and precise description of the furnace operation based on the control system interfaces (actuators & sensors, SCADA, mathematical model), definition of operating modes, sequences, control loops and interlocks, etc.;

  • Process problem analysis and troubleshooting.

SIE WISSEN

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in automation with several years of experience;

  • General knowledge of common control systems and strong expertise in Siemens TIA Portal and PCS7;

  • Good knowledge of IT and industrial networks (Ethernet, Profinet, switches, …);

  • General knowledge of principles and standards related to human safety in industrial installations (machinery);

  • Good understanding of control principles (control loops, filters, …);

  • Solid knowledge of drives operation and programming (especially Sinamics);

  • Versatile and interested in technology and industrial applications, perceptive and attentive to consistency in projects that integrate multiple technical fields (instrumentation, electricity, automation, fluids);

  • General knowledge in instrumentation (pressure switches, thermocouples, Pt100, pyrometers, valves, regulators, …);

  • Autonomous with strong learning ability (curiosity…);

  • Good ability to write detailed descriptions of system operations;

  • Fluent English is essential, German or any other language is an asset;

  • Strong interpersonal skills;

  • Affinity with fluid mechanics is a plus;

  • Affinity with heat transfer is a plus;

  • Affinity with process engineering is a plus.
