Field Service Technician, Hardening Machines (m/f/d)


SMS Elotherm North America LLC seeks a Field Service Technician, Hardening Machines (Multiple Openings) to work in Shelby Township, Michigan and be responsible for the commissioning, installation and maintenance of crankshaft hardening machines and induction heating power supply.  Duties include:  (i) preparing project schedules/plans for starting up and commissioning of crankshaft hardening projects; (ii) preparing client site for installation of crankshaft hardening machines; (iii) configuring operating specifications to the customer's processing engineering requirements; (iv) commissioning, installing, and customizing machines at customer sites; (v) training client’s in-house personnel on project start-up and commissioning activities; (vi) ensuring that risk assessment measures and control solutions are integrated into machine systems; (vii) customizing software for visualization, process, and system controls; (viii) performing integration testing of functions and process verifications; (ix) performing troubleshooting, routine maintenance, and repairs; (x) generating new control concepts; (xi) clarifying customer interfaces (BDE, data) and hardware/software; (xii) generating partial software for visualization as well as process control and system control for the PLC and CNC systems; (xiii) documenting control software (multilingual, as appropriate); (xiv) testing the system control functions and processes to verify system capabilities; (xv) conducting final testing and high-voltage testing of frequency converters as well as testing special in-house induction systems; and (xvi) carrying out remote service maintenance.


Must have an Associate’s degree or a combination of education and/or of experience determined to be the equivalent of an Associate’s degree pursuant to the USCIS rule that three years of experience can be substitute for one year of education in Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology or a directly related field.

Must have three (3) years of experience in installing and maintaining crankshaft hardening systems required.  Experience must include: (i) interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics/drawings for hardening systems; (ii) troubleshooting electronic converter; (iii) operating oscilloscope; (iv) installing induction heating systems; and (v) implementing siemens controls software for hardening systems. Experience can be concurrent.

Must be able and willing to travel domestically and internationally to various unanticipated employer, client, and other locations up to 65%.
