Field Service Engineer


SMS Elotherm North America seeks a Field Service Engineer to work in Shelby Township, MI, and be responsible for servicing, maintaining, repairing and commissioning SMS’ induction heating and peripheral equipment, including hardening machines, EloCrank and EloForge.  Duties include:  (i) designing and interpreting electrical, electronic and mechanical schematics and drawings; (ii) developing electronic test equipment (oscilloscope, digital insulation and multi-meter); (iii) commissioning installations of SMS’ induction heating and peripheral equipment; (iv) providing on-site maintenance and conducting training on SMS’ induction heating and peripheral equipment; (v) providing technical support to customers; (vi) designing and developing the manufacturing and installation of SMS’ induction heating and peripheral equipment; (vii) analyzing current production procedures and standards to identify inefficiencies of SMS’ induction heating and peripheral equipment; (viii) developing technology for new functions to increase efficiency for SMS’ induction heating and peripheral equipment; (ix) monitoring the new engineering procedures and reporting successes and failures; and (x) compiling data and writing reports regarding existing or potential electrical engineering studies or projects related to induction equipment.


Must possess a Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a directly related field.

Must know (from any completed university-level coursework, seminars, workshops, or real-world, hands-on experience):  interpreting and drafting electrical and mechanical schematics/drawings; troubleshooting electronic converter; operating oscilloscope; induction process; and Siemens controls software (PLC).

Must be able and willing to travel to various unanticipated employer and client locations domestically (up to 50%) and internationally (up to 25%).
