Due to the manufacuring process the iron and steel industry is a major emitter of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide. One possible way of converting the carbon dioxide produced into biomass is to bind the gas using algae. In this case, the carbon dioxide is converted into oxygen and carbon compounds through photosynthesis. Due to the high photosynthesis efficiency of algae cultures, this aquatic biomass producer has a high potential for the fixation of carbon. Depending on the type of algae cultures and the process parameters, different valuable substances can be produced in which the carbon is bound
