Patent Engineer

You are responsible for advising and implementing our global IP strategy and processes for all activities of SMS group S.p.A. with the aim of further expanding our technological market leadership by protecting our company against third-party patents and securing our technology for the future. In cooperation with the SMS IP Headquarter in Germany you will work on the entire and diverse spectrum of patent law; these include:

• Implementing global IP strategy for the Italian entity;
• Identification and (coordination of) invalidation of competitors' intellectual property rights in collaboration with external patent attorneys;
• Processing and assessing invention reports, including research of the prior art;
• Coordination of the drafting, examination and enforcement of patents in collaboration with external patent attorneys;
• Patent approval of our products with regard to third party property rights (FTOs);
• Supporting the SMS IP Headquarter in Germany in case of patent law suits.

You have successfully completed a technical degree and, ideally, a degree in patent engineering.

What is important to us:

• Ideally several years of professional experience within industrial patent departments and/or patent law firms;
• Knowledge of intellectual property law;
• Structured, independent way of working, strong analytical skills, economically focused and goal-oriented thinking and acting;
• Confident demeanor and the ability to present complex technical issues in an understandable manner;
• Ability to work in a team, high level of commitment and flexibility;
• Ideally knowledge of relevant patent information and patent management systems (CPA, PatSnap, WinPad, PatOrg, Xpat, or similar);
• Very good knowledge of Italian and English, both spoken and written.
