YOU ACT
As a Site Mechanical Lead, you will play a key role in leading construction, mechanical completion, and commissioning activities while ensuring the safe and successful execution of complex industrial plant projects.
Your core responsibilities include:
- Supporting sales and estimation activities by conducting site surveys, constructability reviews, risk assessments, and developing installation concepts, preliminary schedules, and resource estimates.
- Assisting in bid preparation through technical clarifications and the development of execution methodologies and construction strategies.
- Leading, advising, and coordinating subcontractors, clients, and multidisciplinary construction activities within designated plant areas.
- Managing interfaces between different disciplines, contractors, work packages, and battery limits to ensure smooth project execution.
- Coordinating the timely availability of construction materials, equipment, and erection documentation required for site activities.
- Ensuring all construction and erection works are executed safely and in full compliance with HSE requirements, with a strong focus on accident prevention.
- Monitoring and ensuring quality compliance, adherence to project specifications, and conformity with approved designs and procedures.
- Reviewing subcontractors’ and clients’ working procedures, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Safety Documentation Instructions (SDIs), and construction methodologies.
- Witnessing and coordinating construction, pre-commissioning, and testing activities within the assigned area or discipline.
- Accountable for the timely completion of construction works within the assigned plant area and disciplines.
- Providing regular monthly progress updates, completion forecasts, and performance status reports to site management and project controls.
- Monitoring and controlling construction and supervision budgets within the assigned plant area and disciplines, ensuring cost-effective project execution.
- Maintaining as-built documentation, tracking field modifications, and ensuring accurate project records throughout execution.
- Organizing, reviewing, and coordinating quality dossiers, turnover packages, and handover documentation for successful project closeout.
- Certifying Mechanical Completion (MC) and ensuring systems are ready for commissioning activities.
- Providing technical and organizational documentation to support project management, contract administration, and claim management processes.
- Planning and executing pre-commissioning activities, including system walkdowns, punch-list management, flushing, cleaning, preservation removal, and functional testing.
- Leading and supporting cold and hot commissioning activities in close collaboration with commissioning, process, and automation teams.
- Supporting plant start-up, ramp-up, performance testing, operational stabilization, and final handover to the client.
- Capturing lessons learned and driving continuous improvement by providing structured feedback from construction and commissioning activities.
YOU KNOW
You bring solid experience in the construction and commissioning of heavy industrial plants. Combining technical expertise with strong leadership and a hands-on approach, you thrive in complex project environments and contribute to the successful delivery of industrial plant projects.
Additionally, you bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification; advanced technical education is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in heavy industrial plant construction and commissioning, preferably in the ironmaking, agglomeration, steel, or related process industries.
- Strong background in mechanical installation, equipment alignment, tolerancing, and QA/QC practices.
- Solid understanding of civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and automation interfaces during construction and commissioning.
- Proficiency in project planning and reporting tools such as MS Project and/or Primavera, as well as digital site documentation systems.
- Experience in coordinating subcontractors and multidisciplinary teams within international project environments.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills combined with a structured and proactive working style.
- Demonstrated commitment to HSE excellence, promoting a zero-harm mindset and ensuring compliance with safe systems of work and project safety requirements.
- Willingness to travel internationally and support extended site assignments during construction and commissioning phases.
- Fluent English; German and additional language skills are considered an advantage.
