Primobius is the result of a joint venture between Australian stock exchange-listed Neometals Ltd. and privately owned German plant engineering and technology specialist SMS group GmbH. Primobius offers a unique and sustainable method of recovering valuable lithium, nickel, cobalt, and other materials, for example carbon, from end-of-life or defective lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) from electric vehicles and consumer electronics. The recovered battery materials can be used directly in the production of new batteries.
This unique and advanced recycling solution fits smoothly into the circular economy, ensures that ethically sound materials are used, and helps to reduce not only waste but also our world’s dependence on finite resources.

Chemical Process Engineer – Hydrometallurgy and Solvent Extractions (f/m/x)

YOU ACT

As a chemical process engineer you are responsible for working closely with the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) team and equipment manufacturers to support the commissioning and optimization of hydrometallurgical processes, contributing to the success of our innovative battery recycling operations. Your responsibilities include, among others:

  • Support the design, commissioning, and optimization of process equipment and systems within the commercial demonstration plant.
  • Work closely with the EPC team and equipment manufacturers to ensure the successful installation, testing, and commissioning of hydrometallurgical units, providing technical expertise and guidance throughout the process.
  • Develop and optimize process parameters, operating conditions, and control strategies for solvent extraction and related hydrometallurgical processes, aiming to achieve high efficiency, quality, and safety standards.
  • Conduct thorough process evaluations, troubleshooting, and performance analyses to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization within the hydrometallurgical operations.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, Engineering, and Operations, to transfer technology from the laboratory to the commercial scale, ensuring seamless integration and scalability of hydrometallurgical processes.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety protocols, and best practices for hydrometallurgical operations, promoting a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical support and training to operational personnel, sharing expertise in hydrometallurgical processes and solvent extraction to enhance their proficiency and understanding.

YOU KNOW

You have completed a master’s degree in chemical engineering, metallurgical engineering or a related filed. A Ph.D is advantageous but not required. We value:

  •  Extensive experience in hydrometallurgical processes, with a strong focus on solvent extraction, gained through industry roles in relevant sectors such as mining, minerals processing, or metal recycling.
  •  Proven track record of commissioning and optimizing hydrometallurgical process equipment and systems, with a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and best practices in commercial-scale operations.
  • In-depth knowledge of process engineering principles, mass and energy balances, process optimization, and equipment design related to hydrometallurgy and solvent extraction.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with EPC teams, equipment manufacturers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with safety standards, environmental regulations, and quality management systems relevant to hydrometallurgical operations.
  • Fluent in German and English (verbal and written).
