Senior Project Engineer, Refractory (m/f/x)


YOU ACT

As a Senior Project Engineer for Refractory, you will take responsibility for defining refractory design concepts and managing engineering and supply packages within our agglomeration and fluid bed projects. You will contribute your expertise across the full lifecycle of refractory solutions — from concept development to delivery — and ensure technical excellence in close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • End-to-end responsibility for assigned equipment and technologies
  • Developing refractory solutions for process and mechanical systems, including tools and modelling capabilities
  • Executing heat transfer calculations and selecting suitable refractory material qualities
  • Supporting and coordinating standardization and productization activities
  • Developing cost-efficient refractory designs (“design to cost”)
  • Executing refractory engineering tasks and supervising external engineering partners
  • Managing the development and continuous improvement of refractory solutions
  • Handling intellectual property rights (IPR) management in conjunction with related technologies
  • Managing proposals and providing technical support to the proposal team
  • Supporting Centers of Competence (COCs) in sales and offering activities
  • Supporting Services in offering and delivering refractory solutions
  • Leading or contributing to PSM activities (Product & Solution Management) for refractory solutions
  • Participating in the development of best practices, workflows, and engineering tools

YOU KNOW

You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering and bring several years of experience in refractory or related technologies. You combine technical depth with strong organizational skills, a detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and international environments.

Additionally, you bring:

  • At least 5 years of experience in relevant refractory or associated technologies
  • Experience with design requirements for equipment operating with hydrogen
  • Site experience such as installation supervision or commissioning support (considered an asset)
  • Strong organizational abilities and the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Proficient English skills and ideally German; additional languages are highly welcome
  • Deep knowledge of thermal design tools
  • Solid skills in at least one CAD environment (e.g., Autodesk Inventor)
  • Affinity for working with modern toolsets, including document and product data management systems as well as Office 365 collaboration tools
  • Willingness to travel worldwide and work in a truly international environment
